Guitar player for a bluegrass band locked his keys in the car - a real bummer because then he had to break the window to let the banjo player out.

My partner at work is a master banjo player, and I give him grief constantly.

What's the least heard sentence in the english language?
Hey, that's the banjo player's Porsche, isn't it?

What's the definition of Reintarnation? Coming back to life as a banjo player.

Bill

Oh, and Earl Scruggs rules the earth...and he's from my hometown! Yeah!!!

Thanks Ron for that big one, it was so !

John, my Mom & Dad raised us kids listening to Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, Doc & Merle Watson, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard(The Hag !), Conway Twity, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Porter wagonner, Waylon & Willie, just to name a few!

In the last 20 years, i became a big fan of Dwight Yoakam and Ricky Skaggs and that last one sure pleases me with such talent on either banjo or mandolin !

All my musical biggest influences come from the south, or should i say that my heroes have always been cowboys! You guys are spoiled with the best music in the world to wake up to and go to sleep with! i'm movin' south, ant of tou have a steady job for the Bear?

I went to a Doc Watson concert about 2 months ago in Mars Hill North Carolina. He is getting pretty old, somewher in his 80's but still picking. He's not as fast as he used to be but his voice is still good and musical sence and wit are still sharp. He had his grandson playing with him (his grandson was in his 30's) and that boy could really play the guitar. He was the show, and you could tell he was holding back so as not to upstage doc. Now, nearby in the Ashevill NC area, every year there is an event called the Merlefest which they say is the biggest outdoor music gathering in the USA if not the world. All bluegrass and old time music. You would probably enjoy that.

I am going to be attending an old time music camp for a week in June at Mars Hill College. I signed up for beginners frailing banjo and expect to take this home made banjo with me. I'll make some sound clips and post them John Kinnaird38784.2250810185

Who is Father Ted?

It's OK. Admitting you have a problem is the first step on the road to recovery.

Craig
If I am not mistaken the 14 fret dread guitar was made in part as an effort to lure Banjo players who were used to longer necks and louder instruments to try the guitar. Now don't quote me on this because I have not done much research and admittedly could be wrong.

Thanks John, lookin' forward to hear the sound clips and see pics of that event if you post some, that'll be great. My parents attended Last year's Bluegrass fest in Sudbury Ontario, where a lot of US players go and they said they heard the finest music of their lives. I'm gonna try to make it there this year and bring some souvenirs to post here also.

Father Ted is a character from a comedy show, he is a priest in the show, there is another priest called father Jack who drinks and generally mis behaves, in one episode they are having a visit from the Bishop and train Jack to say "that would be a ethemical matter" to every question.

A true gentleman - someone who can play the banjo, but doesnt !!!

Difference between a 4 and 5 string banjo - the 5 string burns longer.

Q: What do you call a guy who can build banjos and play them well?

A: Smart. Talented.

No, that wasn't a joke...but I thought John could use a little encouragement...!
I'm looking forward to pics and a sound clip John!

Thanks Don. You are a gentleman and a scholar. A true judge of fine women and fast horses, or was that fine horses ...

Anyway, you really don't want to hear a sound clip. I was just kidding about that. This class I am taking is an intro level class. But I appreciate the support.

John

I always thought banjos were cool. But what really put the icing on the cake for me was seeing Stewie Gilligan Griffin pluck a tune on an episode of Family Guy...   'My 'ol baby likes to eat...' Hillarious!
Oh yeah, that and having my mind blown away hearing Bela Fleck play it. That guy is a Monster (note the capital M). I have a most fantastic album of him an one of his long time playing partners, Edgar Myer (Music for two). If any of you want to hear some wiked classical, as well as some of their own compositions, give it a try...

As Carlton and John pointed out, the banjo led to the OM as we know it. That puts the banjo in a rather noble light, doesn't it?

The banjo is very under-appreciated. Do some research. I wouldn't be surprised to find that there is a connection to advanced space travel, medical breakthroughs, better highways, better pizza, penny loafers, calimari, etc. etc. etc. Or not.
